The traditional applications for a distributed operating system are parallel processing
and number crunching. Plurix is capable of both.
But Plurix is more than that especially suited for distributed applications with
inherent need of heavy communication. Some applications have been created to
demonstrate these benefits.
Virtual Presence
A virtual presence project (called 'Wissenheim') was built and is continuously
advancing. It includes a virtual 3D world where participants repesented by avatars can
join the virtual world and communicate with other avatars around.
The possibilities of Plurix are used to update the positions and actions of the avatars
in realtime to all other stations.
Some basic tasks needed for a virtual world are also already included within this project,
like a collision detection, a rudimentary physic engine or a chat system so that the avatars
can furthermore use some educational prepared interactive content inside the virtual world.
